Enable Cookies in Firefox - WhatIsMyBrowser.com

In this article, I’ll be showing you how to set up Firefox to clear browsing history on closing, including cookies, while still retaining log-ins. The article is in response to a question received from one of our readers who wanted to know how to set up Firefox to remember account usernames but not necessarily passwords. On the old SeaMonkey browser I used, when I for instance logged onto Facebook, then logged out, then a few days later went to logon again it held the Facebook username name I had used (but not the password) and I just entered the password and carried on. With Firefox, no matter how I’ve gone through the myriad options I always get a blank username (and naturally a blank password). The short answer is that there is no way in popular modern browsers to do that. It is a case of both (username and password) or neither. That said, there are settings in Firefox that allow users to stay logged into accounts while still automatically deleting other browser history and cookies on closing. What You Need To Know About CookiesFirst off, you need to know a little about the function of cookies. When you visit a website a tiny piece of data called a “cookie” is saved to your web browser. Cookies contain information about your site preferences and other details relevant to each particular site. There are, essentially, two main types of cookies:Session cookies: which are temporary and usually expire when you close the browserPersistent cookies: these are the cookies that retain your log-in information (username and password) and do not expire until either a specific date or length of time as set by that site’s adminWhen the browser is set to delete all cookies on closing, unless exceptions are set, those persistent cookies will also be deleted including log-in details. In other words, you will be logged out. I will show you how to clear browsing history in Firefox on closing while still retaining log-ins so you don’t need to keep signing in– at least, not until the persistent cookie expires. This is achieved through a series of settings.Retain Log-ins In FirefoxClick the three little horizontal lines at the far right of the address bar and then click Options:On the left side of the Options window click Privacy & SecurityScroll down to Cookies and Site Data and make sure the option to Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed is NOT enabledScroll down a little further until you see HistoryUnder History, enable the option to Clear history when Firefox closes and then click the associated Settings buttonIn the window that opens, you can now select what you want to keep and what you want to deletePlace a checkmark next to (enable) everything you want deleted on closing but do NOT enable Active Logins. Then click OKFrom here on in whenever you close Firefox at the end of a session your selected browsing history will be automatically deleted but any existing log-ins will remain active.

Or just request host permissions for the custom sites you've added yourself (or click clear cookies (BPC-icon) to ask for host permission for current site). You can also install the custom add-on version (with host permissions for all sites). For easier access to the add-on options/settings you can add/pin the add-on icon to the toolbar with the toolbar extensions menu (jigsaw puzzle shaped icon).Minimum browser requirement: Firefox 86+.PS although the add-on was removed from Mozilla's add-on store (AMO) (because of DMCA Takedown Notice) it's still signed and manually checked for security by Mozilla (hence the delay in signing). If you want to permanently install the latest master zip-file from GitFlic (with post-release fixes) use a Firefox browser which allows using unsigned add-ons like Firefox Developer Portable (go to about:config and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false) or LibreWolf (for both no automatic updates of add-on).You also need to repack the zip-file so it doesn't contain a folder (default on sites like GitHub).Or load a temporary add-on in regular Firefox (go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox & load manifest.json from unpacked (master-zip) folder).UpdateAdd-on will automatically update or you can do a manual check

How to enable cookies in FIREFOX

Firefox is a commonly used browser with many extensions. Compared with ie, it has many advantages, but some minor aspects seem to be poorly considered. For example, users often encounter problems such as system reinstallation, which requires importing and exporting cookies and folders of Firefox browser. Unfortunately, Firefox only provides the function of importing cookies and favorites of ie by default, After some attempts, I found a way to manually import and export Firefox cookies and favorites here.Cookies:“Firefox: profiles” and “my folder” are selected first, and then “Firefox: profiles” and “my folder” are selected, and then “my folder” is selected at the end, and “my folder” is displayed at random. After entering this directory, find cookies Txt and bookmarks HTML two files, which are cookies and favorites files. Copy these two files to a similar directory on another machine and overwrite the files with the same name to complete the export and import of cookies and favorites of Firefox. Bookmark:In addition, Firefox favorites (bookmarks) can also be exported directly through menu options. The specific method is to open Firefox, click “bookmark – > bookmark management” to start the bookmark manager, and click “file – > export” to back up the existing bookmarks. On another machine, use the “import” function of bookmarks to import the backup bookmarks into the configuration of the new Firefox. The last method is to use the Firefox plug-in. If you feel you trust Google, you can install the Google Browser Sync plug-in developed by Google. You can save your Firefox settings such as bookmarks, history, saved passwords and cookies into your own Google account. You can use your Google account to log in and synchronize the contents of the browser on another machine. Of course, please do not use this plug-in in unsafe places such as Internet cafes, otherwise it will bring great security problems.
